Criteria to Use when Buying a Cycling Bicycle

We have seen a change in transportation recently. While the majority of people in the western world seemed most interested in travelling via automobile, in the last couple of decades many people have been choosing the bicycle as their primary mode of transportation. It could be down to efforts to remain green, perhaps people want to save money on high gas prices, or maybe many people just want to get in shape! Either way there are now more bikes on the road then ever before. Have you been tempted to use a bike for your everyday transport needs? If so the following is some handy advice on what to look out for.

The brakes on your bike are of utmost importance. Brakes are very important on a bike, you need to understand how they work and what type you will most likely need for your bike. For light use you can get a bike with traditional brakes, ones which simply squeeze the tires with small pads. For more hardcore cycling on tough terrain you may want some better brakes. Disc brakes sit within the wheels themselves and work are less likely to give out under stress.

For road bikes take away 9 inches from the total of your inseam. This is due to the type of tires you will be using for a road bike. City i loved this riding is done with thin tires, designed to work perfectly with the smooth concrete roads and sidewalks you find in a city. For a mountain bike you will need to take 12" away from your total inseam. Again this is to account for the type of tires you will be using. Mountain bike tires are thicker than road bike tires, designed for rocky terrain. You can always use a mountain bike for city cycling, although this is not how they are best used.

Just exactly how many gears do you think you’ll use? If you plan to ride in rocky or mountainous areas, you’ll need more gears than riding on flat land. Just because a bike has more gears doesn't make it better. The truth is that you might not need all of those different gears. Save your money for a different feature you’ll really use. Find out where you’ll ride your bike, especially if this is your main vehicle, and make sure you have enough gears to handle the areas through which you will travel.

How well you fit physically with your bike is what is most important. That is the primary goal of anyone who chooses cycling as their primary form of transportation. Comfort and safety are both very important.
